Abstract:
This study intends to assess the challenges and prospects of entrepreneurship development in
Burayu sub city, Oromia Region. For accomplishing this purpose, the study used descriptive 
research design and qualitative and quantitative research approach. In addition, the study 
also employed both purposive and simple random sampling techniques. Moreover, in 
conducting the study, the researcher employed data collection instruments like 
questionnaires and interviews. Accordingly, the in relation to the prospects of 
entrepreneurship development, study found out that, entrepreneurship development 
implemented in the Burayu sub city has a vital role increasing innovation and creativity, 
promoting industrial development, upgrading technology and accelerating economic growth. 
The findings also identified that, there are different types of challenges that hindering the 
development and implementation of entrepreneurship in Burayu sub city. These are, lack of
infrastructure, absence of credit access, luck education and training, inefficient service 
delivery, lack competent personnel. Thus, researcher recommends that, the city 
administration needs to build the system that will promote entrepreneurship by encouraging
the linkage between micro finance institution and enterprise, improving infrastructure
facilities, and teaching entrepreneurship course in school so as to promote enterprises based 
on the demands of the economy.
