Background: One of the most prevalent non-communicable diseases is hypertension. The most neglected causes of uncontrolled hypertension are unhealthy lifestyles. The adherence to life style modification in Ethiopia is about 23.6%, which is low. Therefore, the aim of this study is to assess adherence to life style modification among hypertensive patient.
Objective: To assess adherence to life style modification and associated factors among hypertensive patient having follow up at sululta Town health Facilities and Chancho hospital, Oromia, Ethiopia, 2024.
Methods: A Facility based methods study was conducted cross-sectionally among 233 hypertensive patients selected through systematic sampling. Quantitative data was collected by using structured interview administered questionnaires; qualitative data was collected through focused group discussion. The quantitative data were entered into Epi- info version 3.1 and exported to SPSS version of 25 for analysis. Descriptive statistics were used, and binary logistic regression was used to identify factors associated with the outcome variable. All Variables with ρ-value < 0.05 at a 95%, in the final model was considered as independently associated with adherence to life style modifications. The qualitative data were translated, transcribed, coded, categorized, and themes were formed through a thematic approach. Lastly, results were triangulated using continues narrative approach.
Result: About 31.8% of the respodents have an adherence to life style modification. comorbidities(AOR=5.82,95%CI:.1.99,17.01), knowledge of hypertension(AOR =4.55, 95% CI: 1.58, 13.04), Attitude toward life style modifications(AOR =10.9, 95% CI: 3.1,38.84), social support (AOR=4.05, 95%CI:1.45,11.25) and self efficacy(AOR=3.91, 95% CI:.1.28,11.88 ) were significantly associated with lifestyle modification practice.
Conclusion: The over all of level of adherence to recommended lifestyle modification was very low. Comorbidity, knowledge about the disease and life style modifications, attitude toward life style modifications, self-efficacy and social support were found to be statistically significant predictors of adherence to recommended lifestyle modifications. Social support, self-discipline, knowledge of LSM, poor decition making, cultures related to food consuptions were among the predictors of none adherence as unveiled by the qualitative study |
