Abstract:
This study was designed to assess the practice, challenge, and opportunity of community participation in poverty reduction strategies. The challenge and opportunity in practical implementation in Chobi district, both town and rural kebels It addressed features of challenges and opportunities. It also addressed the real practical implementation, describing its performance and the challenges of community to bring the importance to all societies of answering all research questions to all respondents. Further, the study also assessed community participation and the required intervention measures by all concerned stakeholder sectors. A sample of 150 persons engaged in five different strata’s was taken for the study using stratified and simple random sampling. In an attempt to provide answers to the basic research questions, a questionnaire that includes demographic profiles, characteristics of community participation that affect the performance of poverty reduction strategies, and the support they seek from stakeholders was designed in a closed and open-ended manner. After the data had been collected, it was analyzed using simple statistical techniques (tables and percentages), and figures and descriptive statistics were also used. SPSS version 20 was used. The results of the study indicate the personal characteristics of respondents in Chobi District and factors that affect their performance. The study also shows a shortage of credit facility access from microfinance institutions. The study shows that the majority of the MSE associations need support from government organisations, especially the job opportunity and skill development office, concerning training, business area facilitations, and any other professional motivation concerning their business, leading them to become more active and productive in their business. Lack of bringing both town municipality and rural kebele MSEs in the sprite of competitions and experience sharing, which leads them to pay more attention to their duties to get more information, activity skills, and knowledge's. The town municipality can facilitate the facilitation of various motivations through negotiation with concerned sectors and the free evaluation of targeted activities, taking action on poverty reduction strategies through community participation. Chobi Microfinance Institution could have facilitated all the activities of the credit facility that evaluate today’s market conditions. The study shows that there is a person who can give other ways of earning initial capital investment from their local areas through the Areta process. It is the process of borrowing money from a local private body with high interest, which is not necessary for all societies. Also, the study shows a lack of training concerning their business activities. The recommendation addresses Chobi district job opportunity and skill development office, Chobii microfinance institutions, Chobi town municipality, Chobi police station and attorney office, and Chob district administration to work in cooperation for the strong and feasible development of practice and challenges of community participation in poverty reduction strategy of Chobi district
