The study was conducted by taking in some selected primary schools on Woreda found of
Oromia Regional state, West Shoa Zone of Ambo Woreda focusing on the major practices
and challenges in motivating students towards effective learning. The purpose of this
research is to assess the practices and challenges of motivating students towards effective
learning in some selected primary schools of Ambo Woreda. To this end, the study employed
descriptive survey method, which involves both quantitative and qualitative methods.
Accordingly, Gosu Kora, Kiba and Boji Chitu primary schools were selected through simple
random sampling. Similarly, 30 teachers from these three schools were selected through
simple random sampling techniques in order to give those equal chances. By using data
collection tools both primary and secondary data were obtained. For the interview, the
questionnaire and classroom observation .But department heads were taken purposive. In
addition, data were collected from77 students through simple random sampling for
questionnaire. Thus, descriptive statistics using frequencies and percentages were employed
in analyzing. The results of the study show that teachers were not capable enough to
motivate students in classes. The finding of this shows that, the practices of motivating
students towards effective learning were not given sufficient attention at these selected
primary schools. Not only this but also, some teachers didn’t motivate students towards
effective learning. Based on the above finding the researcher recommended that, educational
stakeholder should motivate students on their learning .It should be given high concern by
all teachers as well as the students them themselves. Further investigation should be done by
any interested body on the issue to come up with unified and well established ideas for any
improvement of the teaching and learning process. |
