Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to investigate the uses of Technology adoption for promoting
effective leadership in Addis Ketema Secondary Schools. In order to attain the objective of the
study descriptive survey design was used. For quantitative study, 24 principals, 80 ICT teachers,
and 79 ICTCMS a total of 183 respondents were employed for the study. For qualitative study 8
participants from the school were used. In selecting samples from the study simple random
sampling were used for principals, ICTT and ICTCMS but for SICTO and SPT Purposive
sampling were used. Both questionnaire and interview were used for data gathering instruments.
The finding of the study were teaching learning were moderately supported by information
communication devices such as plasma TV,LCD, ICT laboratory but students couldn’t operate
different devices as teaching materials. On the other hand the benefit of technology adoption in
promoting effective leadership was not adequate. The major roles school principals played in
technology integration was training teachers in use of ICT, offering teaching materials such as
plasma TV, LCD, facilitating plantation of Computer and internet room, facilitating maintenance
of computer. The major challenges faced for effective adoption of technology in teaching
activities were absence of ICT technicians in the school, inadequate training on ICT use,
interruption of internet connection and high cost of technology devices were observable
challenges. Based on the study the researcher recommend that the central government, Addis
Ababa City administration ,Addis ketema Sub City and Schools collaboratively work in
promoting ICT for effectiveness of principals and teaching learning in the school. To alleviate
the problems related to technology adoption in promoting effective leadership in schools,
adequate budget should be allocated to schools and basic training on ICT skills should be timely
given for secondary schools and hiring ICT technicians for school.
