This study was examined the practices, challenges and opportunities of school feeding program
in government primary in Gulele sub-city of Addis Ababa to achieve the purpose, descriptive
design was employed; using both qualitative and quantitative methods. A sample size of 24
Teachers ,24 department heads, 4 principals and 12 vice principals, 24 food suppliers and 4
School feeding focal person and 318 students selected by using Simple random sampling and a
purposive sampling method were conducted. The quantitative data collected by questionnaires were
analyzed by using frequency, percentage and mean the help of SPSS, version 25. And also the
Qualitative data obtained by interview from teachers, school principals and vice principals and
other‟s were analyzed. The result in class tests and ends of terms as well as session exams of
students showed improvement enhanced student‟s motivation to education, student‟s
achievement, concentration and attention to education and increase students retention in schools.
This program should increase access as there is a significant increase in student engagement
and academic performance. It was recommended that, it is better to the education management
should work to strengthen the community‟s commitment to support the school feeding program.
Based on the findings of this study, policymakers would intend consideration to make School
feeding laws with the appropriate regulations and rules are made for consideration to help improve
the practices of the school feeding program in government primary school in Gulele Sub-city. |
