Introduction: Diarrhea is one of the most neglected and major public health problems 
particularly among under five year children in developing countries like Ethiopia. Diarrhea is 
defined with loose or watery stool for three or more times during a 24–hours period and caused 
by a host of bacterial, viral, protozoa and parasitic organisms.
Objective: Objective of the study was to determine cases of Diarrhea disease and associated risk 
factors among under five years children at Jeldu Distinct, West Shewa, Ethiopia. 
Method: This study was used retrospective data from 2010-February to March 2015 E.C Health 
center at Jeldu Distinct. The socio-demographic data was obtained by interviewing from each 
child’s parents or guardians. All data analysis was performed using SPSS V.24, Miitab V. 8.0, 
Origin Pro, 2023 were employed. 
Result: The retrospective study result revealed that, the diarrhea cases of childhood was found 
to be 33(12.89%), 30(11.7%) and 29(11.32%) between age group of 7-12 followed by 25(9.7%), 
20(7.8%), 19(7.2%) in females and 16(6.25%) in male, 15(5.8%), 9(3.5%) and 7(2.7%). The 
most frequent parasites encountered were, E. histolytca species , G.lamblia and helminthes in 
both sex respectively. 
Conclusion: The cases of diarrhea among under-five children visiting Jeldu Distinct was found 
to be 33 (12.89%).
Recommendation: Thus, identified risk factors have to be considering public Health education 
about the way of transmission and prevention methods of Diarrhea Parasitosis. Knowledge, 
attitude and awareness should be enhanced in the community, level by the District health office 
and women and youth affaires office, education office as well as NGO‟s working in the area
through providing continuous training and information provision regarding the health care,
attention should be provide to the children. |
