dc.description.abstract This study was carried out to analyze the determinants of adoption of modern bee hive in Gidami district in four purposively selected rural villages with 114 sample size from each adopter and non-adopter beekeepers selected through simple random sampling. Among those rural villages, the beekeepers were stratified into adopters and non-adopters of modern bee hives. Based on probability proportional to size 40 adopters and 74 non-adopters were identified out of 114 total sample respondents. Data were collected using structured schedule through personal interview method. In addition to this, focus group discussion, key informant interview and observation were employed. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and logit model. The study revealed that out of all independent variables under study, beekeeping training, education level of household head, perception and apiary visit were positively and significantly influencing adoption of modern bee hive, whereas age, family size, extension contact, market availability and knowledge were not significantly influencing adoption of modern bee hive. The major constraints of beekeeping in the study area as outlined by beekeepers are pest and predator, absconding of honey bee ,lack of beekeeping materials, indiscriminate chemical application, lack of extension support, lack of beekeeping skill ,marketing problem and shortage of bee forage were found to be the major constraints in the beekeeping development of the district in their order of importance. The problems of the beekeeping sub sector demands the solution from multi actors. Thus, government and non-government organization should focus on promoting the adoption of improved bee hives to improve farmers’ income. Promotion of modern bee hive preparation from locally available materials to minimize the cost of the technology is also very important en_US
