Abstract:
The study was conducted to assess the practices and challenges of school leader’s in creating school culture in secondary schools of Shashemene Woreda. In order to achieve the objective of the study, mixed research design was adopted. All (132) schools teachers, principals and supervisors sketched using census sampling technique. Both primary and secondary sources of data were collected via questionnaire and interview. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. the finding of the study revealed school related practices were low and there were numerous school and non-school related factors which hinders establishment of the effective school culture Shashemene Woreda. The finding of linear regression analysis disclosed that strategy, school practices and school leader’s styles were highly associated with school culture at p values less than 0.05 whereas out of school factor has a negative and statistically significant relationship with the school culture. these imply that strategy used in school creation, school practices and school leaders style were highly assist the creation of the effective school culture. It is concluded that school related practices, out of school factors and school leadership styles are among the factors that influence creating school culture and were significantly associated with creating school culture at p-value less than 0.05. Thus, it is recommended that the school leaders should use appropriate strategy, practice and leadership styles in creating proper school culture
