Abstract:
All over the world, there is a realization quarrying activities have increased with time. Mining is a major economic activity in the entire of the world. A study was conducted for the objectives of assessing practices, challenges and opportunities of youth participation in stone mining in Ambo Town administration in cause of senkele Faris village, Oromia regional state, Ethiopia.
The quarry sites in the study areas have many problems which can be characterized by poor quarrying activities. Furthermore, inadequate access to market information, unsafe mining operation, weak institutional capacity and insufficient facility of credit service are among the bottlenecks which can hamper to the overall performance of the Youth stone mining in study areas.
The study was employed descriptive research design. Both primary data and secondary data types were utilized. The primary data was purposely collected from 105 respondents of senkele Faris youth stone mining members through survey questionnaire, key informant interview and personal observation and document review which related to stone mining topic was employed as method of secondary data collection. Quantitative analysis used Simple descriptive statistics,( mean, percentage rank, Frequency and table) with Statistical Package for Social Science version 20.and thematic content analysis was used to analyze the qualitative data without software packages. Based on the objective of the study, the results of the respondent perception on mining practice was a grand mean 2.093 values, it indicates that the respondent’s disagreed. The results of the respondent perception on Challenges faced of mining was a grand mean 3.831 values, it indicates that respondents agree on Perceptions of Challenges faced. The result of the respondent perception on opportunities of stone mining was a grand mean 2.360 value which indicates respondents disagreed. The major finding of the study area was showed that weak performed work and the mining stone was cumbersome to members of the association, due to, traditional work, inadequate of advance technology, inadequate of engagement from concerned body and other related challenged faced in study areas.,
Generally, Stone mining is one of the important sources of income for population in areas near to many cities. So the concerned body should give attentions to this Challenged faced in study areas.. The forwarded important recommendation was on these major pointes.
