Background
Home delivery is public health serious problem maternal mortality not only
the
Maternal but also affects their families, community and nation's growth. There is small of
information
on the determinants of it in study area. So identifying determinant of home
delivery
play a vital role in reducing mortality related to it.
Objective:
To identify the determinants of home delivery among women who gave birth in
the
last 12 months in Berek District North Shao Zone, Oromia, Ethiopia 2023.
Methods:
A community based Unmatched case control study was conducted in Berek
district
among 410 (1: (103 case and 307 control) subjects from May 1 30 2023. Simple
random
sampling technique was used to select the study participants. A pre tested structured
questionnaire
was used to collect data. After the data was entered into Epi data version 3.1, it
was
exported to SPSS version 25 for analysis. Bivariable logistic regression was first
performed
to select candidate independent variables for multivariable logistic regression
model.
Independent variables with a p value 0.25 in bivariable binary logistic regression
were
entered into a multivariable logistic regression model. In the multivariable binary
logistic
regression model, independent variables with a p value 0.05 were considered to
significant
determinants of outcome variable of the study.
Result
A total of 410 women (103 cases and 307 controls) participated in the study, and
making
the response rate of 100%. Home delivery was significantly associated with family
low
income (AOR=. [ CI: .003 expensive cost transportation (AOR=
[95%
CI: 1.73, 6.68), decision of place delivery (AOR=. [ CI: 1.73, and far
distance
from health facility (AOR= [ CI: 7.95, 55.1).
Conclusion:
The predictors of home delivery were Low income, far distance of health
facility,
decision of place delivery by husband and expensive transport cost were the
predictors
of home delivery among the study participants. Actions to encouraging of
transportation
and making health facilities accessible are the recommended interventions to
tackle
home delivery. |
