The impact of working environment on the employee performance (in a case of Bole Lemi Industrial Park)

Abstract

The objective of this study was to identify the effect of working environment on the performance of employees of Lemi Kura Industrial Park. The researcher collected data from employees of Lemi Kura Industrial Park at the park by distributing questionnaires which was used to measure their agreement and disagreement on factors identified in the study. The study employed both descriptive and explanatory research design. On the other hand, the study employed quantitative research approach. The total population for this study was 280employees and accordingly, the study allowed 164 employees and overall, 164 questionnaires were distributed to respondents and 145 (88.41%) response rate was registered. Statistical package for social science (SPSS) software was used to analyze the data collected from questionnaire in the form of descriptive statistics and inferential statistics like correlation and regression analysis. The results from descriptive statistics showed that democratic leadership style, training, and somehow work life balance are relatively good while discrimination, reward, and most importantly work are poorly practiced in the park. The result from inferential regression analysis shows that working environment factors such as democratic leadership style, reward, and work life balance have positive and significant effect on the performance of employees. On the other end, discrimination, physical environment, training, and work load has no significant effect on employee performance. The study recommended that the management of the park should ensure that the workplace environment is comfortable enough to support employee performance by improving the working conditions
