dc.description.abstract Over a period, one or both of the marital partners becomes convinced that relationship intolerable, or at least it is not working then as a solution the marriage becomes end up (Fagan, 2012). This study investigated the prevalence, causes and consequences of divorce in Dire incinni town, Ethiopia. Mixed methods design was employed for the study and both qualitative and quantitative data were collected. For the quantitative data 145 randomly selected households and for the qualitative part Ten (10) key informants selected purposively from Dire inchini town and this eight (8) key informants divorced spouses who are believed to be more knowledgeable about the issue under study and one (1) key informant selected from women and children affairs office and one (1) key informant was selected from courts of Dire inchini District. In addition to this 5-10 of Focus group discussion from this 5 voluntary (3 female and 2 male) and others 3 elders (male) and the left two (2) were the religion of leaders (male) .Questionnaires were used to collect quantitative data while qualitative data were collected through interviews, focus group discussions and document analysis. The quantitative data were analyzed quantitatively using percentage and meanwhile the qualitative data were narrated and paraphrased. The result of the study indicated that the prevalence of divorce is increasing from time to time in the study area. Questionnaire respondents indicate that 56% of households were divorced. The major causes of divorce fall under social causes like poor communication, lack of interaction and conflict management, lack of openness to each other, infidelity ,early marriage and addicted to alcoholic drinks. The collected data were analyzed by descriptive statics like percentage, frequency, mean and standard deviation. The survey results shows that addicted to alcoholic drinks 110 (75.9), poor communication 87 (48.6), lack of interaction and conflict management skills 101 (56.4) and with their mean of 4.98, 4.83, and4.32 were the most social causes of divorce in the study area respectively. Besides to this as the survey results shows Isolation 76 (52.4) and family breakdown 89 (53) and with their mean 4.43 and 4.31 were the most social consequence of divorce in the study are respectively. According to the Dire Inchini town, there was a kind of divorce for several years; any stakeholder should create awareness towards the consequence of divorce on parents as well as on the community. en_US
