Prevalence And Associated Risk Factors Of Pulmonary Tuberculosis In Dandi And Ejersa Lafo District Western Showa, Ethiopia

Abstract

Pulmonary tuberculosis is among the most prevalent diseases in the world and in developing countries with low socio-economic and poor living conditions like Ethiopia. The study was conducted in Dendi and Ejersa Lafo district in aiming to determine the prevalence and associated risk factors of pulmonary tuberculosis by expecting as it provides relevant information for formulating appropriate intervention and input for further studies in the area. The study was conducted from January to February 2023 to achieve the objective. Socio-demographic data and possible risk factors for the occurrence of PTB infection were collected using structured questionnaire. The data was analyzed using SPSS statistical software version 25 based on Chi-square and univariate logistic regression to determine degree of association between dependent variables and the outcome variables. The overall frequency and percentage on the prevalence of pulmonary tuberculosis among both sex and result obtained were 21/202(10.3%) and 6/202(2.9%) in Dendi and Ejersa Lafo district respectively. Males were more prone to infection than females in Dendi having 13 (6.4%) and 8 (3.9%) respectively, whereas male and females are the some prone to infection in Ejersa Lafo having 3(1.4%). The high degree of infection scored in the age group of (31-40) 11 (5.4%) in Dendi and 31-40 age group 3(1.4%) in Ejersa Lafo compared with other age group. The study revealed that infections among study participants were significant.
