Abstract:
Background:Incomplete immunization of children signifies that the child has received the
first recommended dose of the vaccine and yet has missed the next one or more
recommended doses of vaccinations. Incomplete immunization in Woliso Town is 16% in
2021/22 which is aboveNational cutoff of point <5%, but no justification had been sort out
for this high incomplete immunization in the area.
Objective:This study aimed to assess the prevalence of incomplete immunization and
associated factors among children aged 12-23 months in Woliso town, Ethiopia, 2023
Method: A community based cross-sectional study was conducted among randomly
sampled 286children aged 12-23 months in Woliso town from March 06, 2023 to April 06,
2023.The data was collected using pre-tested and structured questionnaire through face to
face interview. Data entry and analysis were made using EPI info version 7 software and
SPSS version 20 respectively. Association between dependent and independent variables
was tested in bivariate and multivariate binary logistic regression model and variables with
p-value ≤ 0.25 were entered once stepwise backward in to multivariate logistic regression.
Summary results were presented using frequency table and cross- tabulation. Statistical
significance was declared at P-value ≤ 0.05 in multivariate logistic regression. Adjusted
odds ratio with corresponding 95% CI was used for the interpretation purpose.
Result: A total of 284 respondents were enrolled into this study giving a response rate of
99.3%. Fifty-two (18.3%, 95% CI:14.1, 22.5) of children incomplete their immunization.
Not having ANC follow up (AOR=4.14, 95%CI: 1.57, 10.90), giving birth at home
(AOR=6.52,95%CI: 2.48,17.14), not knowing benefit of vaccination (AOR=3.59, 95% CI:
1.13,11.45), fail to know when to complete immunization of children(AOR= 3.59, 95%
CI:1.13,11.45) and not getting advice on next appointment from health workers(
AOR=3.58, 95%CI: 1.12,11.46) were statistically associated with incomplete immunization
Conclusion:Fifty-two (18.3%, 95% CI:14.1, 22.5) of children incomplete their
immunization out of total 284. Not having ANC follow up,giving birth at home, not
knowing benefit of vaccination, fail to know when to complete immunization andnot
getting advice on next appointment from health workers were statistically associated with
incomplete immunization.
Recommendation: All responsible bodies shall work on awareness creation at community
level on childhood immunization using the available system & health extension workers.
