dc.description.abstract Menstruation is a universal and normal phenomenon during the reproductive age of females Adolescent is an essential period where females are preparing and adjusting themselves to manage their menstrual bleeding in safe and clean way. This is also the ideal time that girls often join different environments including high schools and tried to plan for their next adulthood life. Globally, according to World Health Organization report, 2.3 billion girls and women didn’t manage their menstruation safely due to lack of facilities for menstrual hygiene management , high cost and ignorance. As a result their lonely option is to use old clothes, or other unhygienic materials as menstrual absorbents, which may impose them to infections and other related health consequences. This study was conducted in Burayu Sub- city, which is located west, and boarder with capital city of Ethiopia, Addis Ababa. The study was conducted from January /2023 to October /2023 based on cross sectional survey to assess the knowledge and practices of menstrual hygiene management and associated factors among school Adolescent girls of both private and government from 9th to 12th grade students of Burayu Sub- city. Three hundred nighty six (396) respondents were involved in the study yielding the respondent rate of 100%. Majority of the respondents were from Oromo ethnic group 275 (69.5%), orthodox religion and urban residents 192 (48.5%) and 376 (95%) respectively. The study result also indicated that about 242 (61%) and (54.3%) of the respondents had good knowledge and good menstrual hygiene management Practice, respectively. About 297 (75%) reported as there was a separate room for MHM in school. about 59 (15%) of the respondents had assigned focal person for MHM activities in school for MHM activity facilitation. Almost few 40(10%) respondents’ school had Shower and save place for sanitary pad changing of girls to make learning environment conducive. Assessment of the MHM knowledge and practice revealed that, about 178(45%) of the respondents strongly agree that Menarche is a normal phenomenon. The study indicated Good knowledge about menstrual hygiene management of school adolescent’s girls in the study area and its Practice about menstrual hygiene management was low. en_US
