The objective of study was to investigate the Contribution of Urban Productive Safety Net Programs on households‟
Livelihood in Gulelle sub-city of Addis Ababa. Descriptive research design was used to answer the research question
and to achieve the objectives of the study. Cross-sectional research design and mixed approach were employed to
gather data. Household survey, focus group discussions and Key informant interview were deployed to collect data.
Systematic random sampling techniques were employed to select sample respondents. 361 household samples were
drawn from randomly four woreda‟s livelihood graduated beneficiary. Descriptive statistics and linear regression
model were used for analyzing the data. The
value of 0.852 result shows that the independent variables (Practices
towards public work activity, Household income information, Food security condition of household‟s, Capacity
development activity for beneficiary) accounted for 85.2 percent of the variance in the contribution of UPSNP on
Household livelihoods. The standardized coefficient of Practices towards public work activity, Household income
information, Food security condition of households Capacity development activity for beneficiary were .101, .202,
.301, .163 respectively. The expected value of the contribution of UPSNPs on Household livelihoods is 0.228 when all
the other descriptive variables. The study recommends the adjustment of the amount of cash transfer for the
beneficiaries based on the current living condition, giving job matching and work places for job, improving saving
culture, Access to credit services, implementation of self-graduation livelihoods for livelihood program beneficiary
and progressive follow up requested on graduation households for their improvement of sustainable livelihood. |
