dc.description.sponsorship The purpose of this study was to investigate determinants of Micro and Small enterprise (MSEs) business performance: A case of Ambo town. More Specifically, the study aimed to explore the status of micro- and small-enterprise business performance in Ambo Town and examine the relationship between the independent variables (management competence, access to finance, access to government support, access to public infrastructure, marketing network, and entrepreneur mindset) and the dependent variable (MSE performance). The study used primary data sources. This study used a stratified sampling methodology and an explanatory survey design to collect data from 205 individuals who owned MSEs in the Ambo town area (149 men and 56 women). The owners of MSEs in Ambo Town were surveyed using a 5-point Likert scale to obtain information about their managerial competence, access to finance, access to government support, access to public infrastructure, marketing networks, and entrepreneurial mindset. Numerous statistical analyses were done to identify the factors affecting MSEs' business performance in Ambo town. Analysis methods that were specifically used are multiple regressions, factor analysis, and correlation. Factor analysis techniques are used for the measurement and extraction of latent explanatory variables for the linear regression models that relate determinants to micro- and small-scale performance. A correlation analysis revealed a substantial positive relationship between management competency, access to finance, access to the government, access to public infrastructure, a marketing network, and an entrepreneurial mindset and MSE performance. Regression analysis revealed that management competence, financial accessibility, access to public infrastructure, marketing networks, and an entrepreneurial mindset all significantly and favorably affect MSE performance in Ambo Town. A total of 81.9% of the variance in business performance is explained by independent factors. Based on the findings, it is recommended that the government concentrate on fostering entrepreneur management competence and providing all the funding and infrastructure required for MSEs to operate amicably in Ambo town.1 en_US
