Satisfaction Towards Blood Donation Procedure And Associated Factors Among Voluntary Blood Donors At Woliso Blood Bank, Oromia, Ethiopia, 2022

Abstract

Background: Satisfaction is when a desire or a need is fulfilled, feels satisfied when a person achieves a difficult goal, accomplishment, recognition, invention and service. Blood donors‟ satisfaction can be influenced by, previous blood donation experience and services provided at blood bank. So far, there has not been base line data about satisfaction level towards blood donation procedure and associated factors at national level as well as at study area. Objective:-To assess level of satisfaction towards blood donation procedure and its associated factors among voluntary blood donors at Woliso Blood Bank, Oromia, Ethiopia,2022 Method: A facility based cross sectional study design was employed at Woliso Blood Bank from September 1 to October 30/2022.A total of 423 study participants were selected using systematic random sampling technique. Pretested questionnaire was used to collect data by face to face interview. Descriptive statistics were summarized by table of frequency and diagram. By bi variable analysis variables with p-value <0.25 were enrolled in multivariable logistic regression analysis. Finally statistical significance was declared at p-value < 0.05and adjusted odds ratio with 95% confidence interval. Results: Level of satisfaction towards voluntary blood donation procedure was found to be 51.3%, 95% CI (46% - 56%).Place of residence (AOR=1.957; 95%CI: 1.016-3.771), blood donation at mobile site(AOR=0.392,95%CI:0.226-0.681), having experience of adverse blood donation reaction (AOR=1.616, 95%CI: 1.012-2.580), Blood test result (AOR=1.527, 95%CI: 1.007-2.314) were factors significantly associated with satisfaction towards voluntary blood donation procedure at Woliso Blood Bank. Conclusion: The study had determined level of satisfaction towards blood donation procedure at Woliso blood bank. Place of residence, having experience of adverse blood donation reaction, site of blood donation and provision of blood test result were significantly associated with satisfaction towards blood donation procedure. Recommendation: - Woliso Blood Bank should focus on early notification of blood test result, reassure about minor adverse reaction following blood donation and promote blood donation at Blood Bank rather than mobile site blood donation
