dc.description.abstract In developing countries like Ethiopia internal youth migration affects social, economic and political realities in both sending and receiving areas. This study aims at identifying the major causes and consequence of youth internal migration in Burayu sub-city with the goal of providing a better understanding of its causes and as result youth internal migration. In doing so the study highlights the perception, assess cause and consequence of youth internal migrant and to propose the solution to address the problem Burayu sub-city. The study employed both quantitative and qualitative approaches. Descriptive and narrative analysis were made using SPSS version 29. Further, the study employed both probability and non-probability sampling methods. Simple random sampling and snow ball sampling methods were used to reach migrants in the Burayu sub-city. The primary data were collected from 389 youths randomly sampling and snow ball sampling method selected from Burayu sub-city, by using questionnaire, informants were interviewed from Burayu sub-city administration labor and social affairs office and FGD from community were conducted. Structured questionnaires were used on the demographic and causes and consequences characteristics of migrants. The study found that there were economic, social, and political push factors that made people leave their original places of residence and relatively better facilities and services in the destination towns that attracted them. Most of the majority migrant’s that move to the city had no information about the city before migration and the decision of their migration is mostly made by themselves or by self-decision. However, most of them decide to migrate not in planned way. A greater number of the migrants are males, unmarried and had majority form of primary and secondary education. And majority of the migrants to those towns were from Oromia Regional State. There are many causes for the migration of people to Burayu sub-city, among them the search for modern urban service and facilities job transfer, industrial development, comparative higher wage better security condition and job opportunity was the major one. Many of the migrants encountered challenges at the initial period of adjustment and adaptation. The recommendation focused on creating public awareness of migration by the regional government and one of the causes of youth migration is political instability, so the government should do its part to stabilize the political situation. It is also recommended that creating new job opportunities in rural area, enhancing rural investment and availing credit facilities in the rural areas are important to reduce the challenges of migration. en_US
