Abstract:
This study conducted on practices and challenges and opportunities of women access to and control over land in current land administration system the case of rural kebele Ambo woreda west shewa zone Oromiya regional state Ethiopian.The study employed the mixed research method for comprehensive and better understanding. The target population for this study was 318 out of 1548 households.The study employed the mixed research method for comprehensive and better understanding. Sampling and sample size methods of data gathering and analysis, tools for gathering data. Quantitative methods to collect data from primary sources.The data were analyzed Cochran’s (1977) formula as indicated on Bartlett Kotrlik and Higgins (Bartlett and Higgins, 2001). Tools such as interviewer assisted survey, questionnaire, key informant interviews and focus group discussions were used in the process of data collection The instruments used to gather primary data questionnaires; key informant interview, focus group discussion and personal observation were prepared and used whereas for secondary data different related research, books and internet were used.. Results indicate the recognition of women’s right to equality with respect to access to and control of land in Oromia. However, there are harmful customary practices and stereotypes against women land access in the Ambo woreda, which hinders on effective implementation of the legal rights of women to possess and control land.It has been found that it recognize a women’s right to equality with respect to access to and control of land in Oromia.
