Abstract:
The purpose of this study is to examine psychosocial wellbeing of adolescents living with
and without parents in the case of ten upper elementary schools in the Dawo district. The
study employed quantitative research design of cross-sectional survey. Data were
collected from 179 adolescents from living with parents and another 89 adolescents from
living out parents aged 13 to17 years. One adapted instruments; The Ryff (1995)
psychological wellbeing standardized scale was used to gather data from study
participants. Data analysis included percentage, independent t-test and one way ANOVA.
The independent t-test revealed that adolescent female had a significantly lower from
compared to male adolescents. The independent sample t-test revealed a female had a
significant lower in psychosocial problems compared to male. Males were more
psychosocial problems than females. Results from one way ANOVA also showed that
there was a significant difference in psychosocial problems among living with parents of
different family sizes. Significant difference in psychosocial problems observed between
adolescents from 2-4 family sizes and ≥9. Hence, the study recommends that it is
important to provide an appropriate intervention programs that address the psychosocial
issues that adolescents face and Government, Non Government Organizations working
on Adolescents and other donor organizations have to work jointly to create psychosocial
support strategies
