Analysis Of Milk Production Constraints And Factors Affecting Level Of Milk Marketed: The Case Of Adebarga District, Oromia Region, Ethiopia

Abstract

The study was conducted in Adeberga District of the west showa zone of Oromia National Regional State with objectives of milk production constraints and factors affecting level of milk marketed in the area. For the present study the primary data was generated from four randomly selected kebeles from a total of 39 kebeles in the district. A total of 191milk producer households were randomly selected based on Probability proportion to size technique. The survey was conducted by administering structured questionnaire during the year 2022. In addition, secondary data collected from relevant sources were used to analyze the milk production systems of the study area. Descriptive statistics and multiple regression models were used to describe socio- demographic, economic, and institutional and management practices of the respondent. Nine explanatory variables were included in the multiple linear regression models out of which seven were found to be significant. The significant variables include Age of household head, the credit service for household, the distance from market; in house management cattle, drought, access to extension contact and household’s access to adequate veterinary services were the most important factors influencing total milk markets in the study area. Based on the results of the present study it is suggested that strengthening research and extension activities with due attention to improve milk yield through, feed and water access, improve households income and access to extension as among vital policy decision areas to boost up milk production and its market in Adeberga district.
