Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to identify the practices and challenges of females in primary school Principal as
instructional leadership and suggest remedial solution so as to reduce the magnitude of the problem. To
conduct this study, descriptive survey method was employed. The participants of this study were 119 out of
which 88, teachers were selected by using simple random sampling techniques using lottery method. The 16,
school principals, 12, PTA and the three clusters supervisors were also involved by using purposive sampling
technique. The data obtained were analyzed using suitable statistical tools such as percentage, mean, weighted
mean, t-test, and. inferential statistical Accordingly, the study has revealed that society's negative perception
concerning female's ability and competence to hold the position of principal was comparatively changed that
females are perceived to be highly competent in most skills. However, despite their competence, they are still
non- prevalent and underrepresented at administrative levels. It was further identified that the major causes
that hinder female’s participation in primary school principals were: fear of harmonizing professional and
family lives; society’s perception regarding female’s practices and gender role socialization, lack of monitoring
and evaluation of the policy during implementation.
Finally, the organizational policies and practices which give golden opportunities for females should be fully
implemented so as to attract as many female candidates as possible for enhancing their involvement in
educational instructional leadership positions.
