Early Implanon Discontinuation And Associated Factors Among Women Who Current Users Of Implanon At Health Facilities In Holeta Town, Oromia Region, Ethiopia, 2022

Abstract

Background: Even though many women who use Implanon contraceptive are happy with the method, a significant number of women choose the method and then request early removal.VII Implanon discontinuation is unacceptably high in developing countries, including Ethiopia. Objectives: To assess early implanon discontinuation and associated factors among women who current users of implanon at holota tawon . Oromia region Ethiopia, 2022. Method and materials : Facility based cross sectional study was conducted. A total of 305 participants selected from reproductive age women attending for implanon removal were selected from Holeta health institution using simple random sampling technique. Interviewer administered questionnaires was used to gather data from May to October 30, 2022. Data were collected using a pretested questionnaire. The collected data were checked for completeness, cleaned and entered into Epi­Data version 3.1 and exported into SPSS version 25 for analysis. Bivariate and Multivariate logistic regression was run. In binary logistic regression analysis, a variable with p<0.25 was entered in multiple binary logistic regression analysis. Then the regression result was presented using COR, AOR with 95% CI and p value less than 0.05 as level of significance. The results were presented using frequency table, described in text charts and graphs. Results: The magnitude of early implanon discontinuation was about 23.5% with confidence interval at 95%CI (18.9, 28.3). those motors who didn’t get cancelling before insert in from the some were more keenly of discontinue emplaning at Early Those mothers who didn’t get counselling before insertion (AOR=2.62, 95%CI 1.13, 6.09) were more likely to discontinue implanon at early and those mothers who didn’t get satisfaction from the services AOR=1.88, 95%CI 1.73, 4.79) were more likely to discontinue implanon at early. Conclusion and Recommendation: the overall discontinuation of implanon at early was high. In this study educational status, occupation of the mother, had media at home, those who had discussion with their partners and who got counseling showed statistical association with early discontinuation of implanon. Effective counseling on advantages and side effects of implanon should be made to increase implanon retention
