This study aims to assess the practices and challenges of monitoring and evaluation in construction projects: the case of west shoa construction office to achieve its objective, the study employed descriptive research and both primary and secondary data. Questionnaires were used as methods of data collection.
The survey base on the literature and on the information collected through the document view of the office. The survey questionnaire was distributed to 40 were sent to 30 public project contractors, 5 clients of Zone’s projects and 5 consultant team who were selected purposively among team 37 responded, which presented a response rate of 92.5%.
The data gathered through the questionnaire was analyzed by Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS). The generated data was analyzed using tables, frequency, mean, standard deviation and percentage.
The result of the study indicated that West shoa construction office employed all stages of quality management process even though some of the processes are overlooked.
The major findings of the study are to examine the current existing practice of West Shoa Construction Office in monitoring and evaluation system using M&E as a tool and the extent influence of training, monitoring team strength, time and cost on M&E performance of public projects in west shoa construction office, the knowledge status of office on Monitoring and Evaluation practice and the challenges faces the office during the implementation of Monitoring and Evaluation and at the same time to forward appropriate recommendations.
The study also recommended that West shoa construction office to have separate monitoring and evaluation policy in order to enhance management involvement, capacity building on project management skills for effective implementation of public projects of oromia construction office |
