dc.description.abstract The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between school leadership styles and Teachers’ motivation in government secondary school of Mida kegn woreda. For this purpose, correlation research design with quantitative method was employed. The respondents of the study were 204 teachers who were selected through comprehensive sampling technique from 4 schools found in the woreda. This study used both primary and secondary sources of data. The primary data was obtained from teachers by using questionnaire. Data collected through questionnaire were analyzed by using descriptive statistics (such as percentage, frequencies, mean and standard deviation) and Pearson’s correlation coefficient with the help of SPSS version 20. The study indicate that transactional leadership style most frequently practiced by school leadership, transformational leadership practice moderately whereas laissez-faire leadership was low practiced in Mida kegn woreda secondary schools. As the finding also indicates the perception of teachers about their school principal leadership style was at medium level of intrinsic motivation of teacher’s and low level of extrinsic motivation of teacher’. The finding indicates that there is a positive and strong relationship between transformational leadership and teachers’ motivation (r=.856, p=0.01). And also positively and strong relationship between transactional leadership and teachers’ motivation (r=.766, p=0.01) whereas laissez-faire style has a low relationship between with the level teachers’ motivation(r= .012, p=0.01 in Mida kegn woreda. Also, it can be concluded that principals’ leadership style is important for teachers’ motivation in selected secondary schools. Therefore, the researcher was recommended that, the government of Ethiopia, ministry of education and Mida kegn district education office should understand the importance of leadership style conduct short-term awareness programs and arrange training and workshops for school principals leadership regarding the appropriate leadership style, upgrade their skills and motivational strategies for school principals leadership towards the job. en_US
