Abstract:
In order to meet the demand for clean, affordable energy in the context of environmental
concerns, new technologies in energy conversion must be applied because of human re quirements for energy. One of the sources of renewable energy with the largest potential
is solar energy. In this paper a relation between efficiency, sun radiation and temperature
was investigated with Mathematical modeling employed using MATLAB software. The
open circuit voltage of silicon solar cell decreases remarkably with the rise of temperature
from 25°C-100°Cat constant irradiance of 1000W/m2
. However, the short circuit current
slightly increases with temperature. The output power of solar cell decreases as the
operating temperature rises due to the drastically decrease of voltage which cannot be
compensated with a small increase of short circuit current. The maximum output power
of silicon solar cell calculated at different cell temperatures 25°C, 50°C, 75°Cand 100°Care
112.2W, 100.5W, 100.8W and 94.6W respectively. Moreover, efficiency of solar cell found
at 25°C, 50°C, 75°Cand 100°Care 14.29%, 13.37%, 12.84% and 12.05% respectively. The
current of silicon solar cell increases linearly as the irradiation increases whereas the volt age logarithmically grows with the increase of irradiance. Therefore, the output power
of solar cell rises as the sun irradiation increases. The maximum power of 0.78W, 1.6W,
2.4W, 3.0W and 3.9W are found at irradiation of 200W/m2
, 400W/m2
, 600W/m2
, 800W/m2
and 1000W/m2
respectively when the solar cell is operated at constant temperature of
25°C
