Abstract:
The study assesses supply chain management practice: The case of Dangote cement
factory, Adea-Berga district. The objective of the study was to assess quality service
practices; business planning practices; information exchange practices, timely
distribution system practices, production system practices, supply chain system practices
affecting Dangote cement factory; and risk factors affecting practices affecting Dangote
cement factory. Descriptive research with quantitative data was used to measure supply
chain management practices. The data was analyzed using SPSS version 22. The actual
sample taken from the population was 130/235 (45% response rate) and with non response rate of 105/235(45%). The results of the study survey respondents agree that
organizations should strive to establish a long-term relationship with their suppliers.
Study respondents said quality is the number one criterion in selecting suppliers. 69% of
those polled agreed that organizations and their trading partners keep each other
informed about events or changes that affect the other partners. More than half (50%) of
supply chain members agree on the importance of standardizing supply chain practices
and operations. Almost half (49%) extremely agreed organization's production process
modules can be rearranged so that customization can be carried out latter at distribution
centers, according to a study. The Dangote cement factory's supply methods should
continue focusing on selecting suitable partners with proven supply chain management
experience. The factory's timely distribution system methods should include
communicating timely information between business and other trading partners to
engage more partners in the long-term production process.
