urban agriculture Various socio-economic activities by people are characterized a certain kind
of division of labour,. In the process of social and economic development. The study was
conducted the role of gender in urban agriculture in Addiss ketema sub cuty . This study used a
malti stage sampling procedure in which purposive selection of sub city and weredas were
selected. simple random sampling was used to select respondents. The study is based on primary
data collected from 139 sample selected through interview schedule assisted survey
questionnaire.. The data has been analyzed by descriptive statistics by using SPSS softrwear,.
The study result showed that women’s contributes 28% of labor to agricultural activities. Men,
65% boys8.% and girls 1% participate in agricultural activities. women’s work in the urban
agricultural activities documented as marginal as producers. According to the study analyzed
that urban women spend their time in daily labour and petty trade activities,. The study showed
that the average day for a urban women in Addiss ketema involves food processing, , assisting
family farm, marketing and labor exchange for community services the level of participation
men labor is more participating in urban agricultural activities, but woman’s are participate
community services and contributing in securing their household members food demand than
other household members do. In general the contributing factors that influences women’s role in
urban agriculture depends upon the on their women’s not interested urban agriculture activities
, in the study area there were few supporting organizations to promote gender role in urban
agricultural activities and empower them. However, those that do not have a specific gender
focus, but undertake some single or combined gender –related activities which are generally
mother and child care, nutrition, water, girls’ education, women savings and credit facilities.
The study analyzed that those few government organizations that have attempted to tackle
gender issues have encountered serious problems of resource availability, limited technical
capacity, poor organization and lack of coordination, which have made it impossible to
streamline their gender concerns in a concrete way into effective programmed interventions. |
