dc.description.abstract Women usually have limited accesses to resources and opportunities and their productivity remains low relative to their potential. As a result, gender roles and issues in potato production and management practices was conducted in Wolmara District. Specifically, the study intended to analyze gender roles and issues in potato production and management practices in study area, to investigate gender related constraints in potato production and management practice in the study area, to examine gender issue in potato production and management practice in study area, to analyze women empowerment levels in potato, and to explore opportunities for gender-based potato production and management in the study area. The Research approach used a mixed research design where data collections were joined with qualitative and quantitative methods. Relevant information was gathered from 139 potato producers by using and secondary sources of data. The data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics. In regards to gender role in potato production and management in the study areas, the result indicated that 127 (91.4%) were women to have workload increased in potato production activities. Very few respondents 12 (8.6%) reported that workload increased to men potato farmers On the other hand, both males and females play equal roles in planting, fertilizer and herbicide application watering soil conservation and management During the collection of primary data, triangulations of different methods were used to ensure the reliability and validity of the collected data. The secondary data sources were collected from published and unpublished materials Method of data analysis was qualitative by using thematic analysis to triangulate the quantitative data to achieve the stated specific objectives of this study. The summary of the analyzed qualitative data was presented in pair wise matrix ranking chart Gender Issues in potato production and management practices. To generate a better result, descriptive research design and exploratory research design were combined. To enable analysis of data collected through questionnaire, Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) software (version 25) was used.
