| dc.description.abstract | The main goal of this study was to assess the extent of the problem and 
recommending possible solutions for practices and challenges of instructional 
supervision in government secondary schools of kolfe sub-city, To conduct this 
study, descriptive survey design was employed and different sampling techniques 
were applied to select respondents. From three secondary schools of the sub city 
with 4 school principals, 2 vice principal, 20 department heads, and 94teachers were 
included in this study. Descriptive statistics and percentages were the main tools

used in the analysis. The results of the study suggested that the school instructional 
supervisory practice was ineffective to involve in the difficult task of supervision 
without having sufficient trainings. Inefficient in promoting professional competence 
of teachers, lack of enough time and emphasis towards instructional supervision, 
lack of support like providing suitable environment for discussion with teachers, 
need of training and experience sharing session, absence of accountability and 
teachers commitment , shortage of budget and principals’ engagement on other tasks 
out of their instructional leadership, higher teaching load of supervisors, inadequate 
communication skill of supervisors, and hindrance of teachers in proper 
implementation of school instructional supervision were the findings of the study 
Finally, recommendations were drawn based on the conclusions which include: 
allowing the instructional leaders of the schools had better to manage their teachers 
professionally, providing awareness about the purpose and proper implementation 
of instructional supervision on the part of school supervisors and teachers through 
trainings, workshops and discussion forums about the different strategies of 
supervision to bring professional growth of teachers and improving their 
instructional practice. Also instructional supervisors had better to commit to provide 
professional support to teachers to improve teachers’ instructional limitations; 
suggestions were also forwarded to minimize challenges that hinder proper 
implementation of supervisory practices | en_US |
