dc.description.abstract The issue of conflict resolution is seldom handled in literature on Oromo particularly in ambo woreda. The primary aim of this study was to asses practice, Challenges and Opportunities of mecca Oromo bokkuu conflict resolution as respondent’s perception in two selected village of Ambo woreda, West Showa Zone, and Oromia Regional State. The study employed the mixed research method for comprehensive and better understanding. The target population for this study was 153 out of 8168 households. The study area selected by purposively because it’s inhabitant of the researcher and unavailability of previously conducted researches that related with practice, opportunities and challenge of bokkuu indigenous conflict resolution mechanism. The instruments used to gather primary data questionnaires; key informant interview, focus group discussion and personal observation were prepared and used whereas for secondary data different related research, books and internet were used. The statements from scheduled key interview and focus group discussant were used to substantiate the responses of questionnaire. The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics using SPSS version 20.0.Descriptive statistics was employed to evaluate the frequency of respondents and their attitude in related to bokkuu conflict resolution mechanism. Based on the data analysis the following findings were recorded according to respondents perceived. The result of the study indicate that the process of Mecca Oromo bokkuu conflict resolution has been an indigenous and cultural conflict resolution practice it have social, political, economic advantage for this large people which had been practiced by this local area society for a long time. The study also confirmed that practice of bokkuu indigenous conflict resolution has a great role in resolving conflicts that occur in a society by employing customary laws. The study also try to address opportunity, or advantage this center in related to time, cost ,peace, political, social and economic value it have for this study area people . challenges of Mecca Oromo bokkuu conflict resolution were identified as, financial problem , lack of support from government, negative attitude( consider as religious issue),infrastructure, documentation, modernism, absence of active participation of young youth, education , corruption, participation on governmental case, From this, it was concluded that practice of bokkuu indigenous conflict resolution mechanism is it have some sort of social , political economic challenges with inadequate opportunity and support at this woreda. So, mecca Oromo bokkuu indigenous conflict resolution mechanism has greater acceptance by the Oromo of Ambo District community as institution. The council of bokkuu elders or Samala`oo has got high respect and acceptance because of their decision and working quality with honesty from community they are given fair justice. By raising the awareness of community and public at large through social Organizations and Medias, at different cultural ceremonies and meeting, it can be build value of this indigenous mechanism. en_US
