Background: Dual contraceptive is the use of a barrier like condom along with any modern contraceptive methods, which has double significance for the prevention of Sexual transmitted infection, including human immune deficiency virus and unintended pregnancy.
Objective: To assess dual contraceptive methods utilization and associated factors among women in reproductive age women attending ART service in Ginchi Health center West Shao Zone, Oromia Regional State, Ethiopia 2022 .
Methods: Facility based cross sectional study design was conducted among reproductive age women on antiretroviral therapy from November 2021 to January 2022. Study participant were selected by systematic random sampling technique. A pretested structured interviewer-administered questionnaire was used for data collection. The data were entered into Epi data version 3.1 and exported to IBM SPSS statistical software version 23 for analysis. Bivariate and multivariable logistic regression analysis was computed. Odds ratio along with 95% confidence interval was computed to ascertain the association.
Results; - The study revealed that the proportion of dual contraceptive use was 109 (38.9 % 95% CI; 32.7, 44.4). Age of respondents between 15 and 19 years {AOR 89.651 95 % CI 2.137, 3760.207 ), age 20–24 years [AOR=29.855 95% CI,1.610, 553.585) ], age 25–29 years [AOR=29.109, 95% CI (1.812, 467.548,)] ,age 30-34( AOR 38.092 95% CI, (2.440, 594.743 ) and age 35-39 (AOR; 16.612 95 % CI (1.147, 240.639 ) and disclosure of HIV sero-status (AOR=1.590, 95% CI .1.066,2.370) had statistically significant association with the outcome variable.
Conclusion and recommendations; - This study showed that the proportion of dual contraceptive use was found to be low. In general this study showed that age category of respondent and disclosure of HIV status was statistically significant association with utilization of dual contraceptive methods. Therefore, it is necessary to propose new approach to give contraception at ART room with integration of ART service. The concerned stakeholders also should emphatically consider those identified factors for intervention. |
