In the most developing countries out of pocket health care spend still impoverishes 
households especially in rural and people in informal sector. So far, many have been 
conducted study regarding the determinants of CBHI WTP in developing countries in 
general and in Ethiopia in particular. Accordingly, the main objective of this study was 
to assess willingness to pay for CBHI and factors determining it among rural households 
in Ambo district, west shoa zone, Ethiopia. To conduct this community based cross 
sectional survey was conducted by collecting data from 322 household heads using a 
multistage sampling method. Contingent valuation method and binary logistic 
regression was used to identify the determinants of household decisions for CBHI 
enrollment. The data was collected using structured self-administered questioner then 
entered and analyzed with Stata version 14.0. The finding disclosed that among 322 
respondents, 187(58.07%) of them were willing to pay and 315 etb is the mean amount 
they are willing to pay. The finding revealed that gender, income level, employment type,
participation in social association , trust in method of payment and waiting time for 
service card are significantly determine willingness to pay for CBHI. Furthermore, this 
study finds the household who are willingness to pay CBHI scheme is low in the district.
Therefore, to enhance enrolment and build trust on the program the Agency of health 
insurance and health offices should digitalize membership, contribution collection and 
redesign ID distribution strategy get service as soon as payment made. |
