Abstract:
Cooperative member perception toward their cooperative is essential aspects that determine the
survival of the cooperative. Accordingly, this study is designed to assess members’ perception
toward agricultural marketing cooperatives in Bako Tibe District. The major objective of the
research work is assessing member perception towards agricultural marketing cooperative and
the determining factors. The research collected primary data from respondents and key
informants using semi-structured questionnaire and in-depth interview respectively. Data were
collected from 208 respondents and analyzed using descriptive statistics to describe member
perception and determining factors. Besides, ordinal logistic regression analysis was used for
explaining the association of the factors with cooperative member perception. From the
descriptive analyses, study findings indicated that member knowledge of the cooperative is low.
The findings of the study shown that farm supply performance of cooperative in the study area
is high but farm output marketing performance is low. The study found that the member
perception towards their agricultural cooperative is low. From the ordinal logistic regression
analysis, the Nagelkerke pseudo R square is 0.758 reveal the factors considered by the study
explain 75.8% of member perception towards their cooperative. It also indicates the
demographic factors, marketing factors and member knowledge of their cooperative are
positively and statistically significantly determining member perception. However, the ordinal
logistic regression analysis indicates that member related factor influence member perception
negatively but an economic factor has no statistical significant effect on the member
perception.
