Socioeconomic factors in sports impact physical activity. In this regard, the socio-economic
perspective includes factors such as education, family, nutrition, income, and culture. This
study is about the impact of socioeconomic factors that affect athletics training. The
independent variables are factors like Family, culture, education, ethnicity, coaching, and
nutrition factors on the athletics training in the west shoa zone Athletics project (Chaliya,
Galessa, and Ginchi Athletics project training).The objective of this study was to
understand the impact of socio-economic factors on athletics training in the study area.
This quantitative and qualitative study was aimed at observing the impact of socio economic factors training, Family, culture, education, environmental facility, ethnicity,
social support, motivation, government, and nutrition on the training of athletics projects.
The study consisted of a target population of 81 (Athletics from Chaliya, 13 male and 12
Female, Ginchi 13 male and 12 females, and Galessa 13 male and 12 females, 3 coaches
and 2 staff of these woreda projects and 1 west shoa zone Athletics Federation). The
sample population consists of 75 Athletes (39 male and 36 female) and also, 3 coaches male
and 2 Administrative staff members have been selected from those projects by their position.
Three types of instruments questionnaire, desk review checklist, and document analysis
were used. Data were entered, edited, coded, and analyzed by using Statistical Packages for
Social Science (SPSS) software version 20, for analysis and Descriptive statistics such as
frequency mean and standard deviation was computed to describe the variables of the
study. A total of 81 respondents (making a response rate of 100%) were included. Project
athletics under study do not follow standard procedures for athletics development for the
reasons of lack of training field, shortage of qualified and experienced coaches, facilities,
do not have sufficient support from social and government. Parents have a significant
impact on athletes’ training development and career. The most influenced socio-economic
problems for athletic training in the projects were the absence of training fields, nutrition,
sports facilities and materials, motivation through the government, social support, and
qualified coaches.The youth and sports office of Wereda around the project center must
give awareness and adequate information on what is the necessity of athletics. The Oromia
Athletics Federation should supply a balanced diet for the projects that balance with their
exercise to improve their Athletics training |
