Abstract:
This study aims to examine the effects of the work environment on employees’
productivity in Dangote Cement Factory PLC Ethiopia as a case. In this study, both
qualitative and quantitative research approaches were employed. The research designs
for this thesis used both a descriptive and explanatory research method. Primary data
were collected through close-ended questionnaires. Using the population of 325
permanent active employees in Dangote Cement Factory, a sample of 179 was
determined of which all sample populations were retrieved and appropriately filled. The
targeted respondents were selected with a simple random sampling technique. The
primary data were collected through a self-administered questionnaire and analyzed
using multiple regression analysis. Correlation and multiple linear regressions were used
for analysis. The findings confirm that all the independent variables (physical
environment, Administrative environment, and social environment) have a positive and
significant relationship with the dependent variable (employee productivity in Dangote
Cement Factory, Ethiopia). The reliability of the data collection instrument was
calculated and the Cronbach’s alpha coefficient was 0.892. The findings revealed that the
physical, administrative, and social environments are the most practiced productivity
tools. All Three dimensions showed a positive and significant relationship with employee
productivity. The physical Work environment was found to be relatively the highest
predictor (β = .427) followed by the social work environment (β =.356) and
Administrative work environment (β = .259). All the dimensions are good predictors of
productivity. The Factory should exert more effort to improve its work environment based
on need assessment and focus on monitoring its implementation.
