The purpose of this study was to assess the teachers commitment in implementation of continuous
assessment in secondary school of West Shoa Zone, Dano Woreda .The study used both qualitative
and quantitative methods of data gathering instruments such as questionnaire, interview and
document analysis. The participants of the study were 82 teachers from the six high schools (Seyo
secondary school, Bake Sirba secondary school, Dano Roge secondary school, Haro Jibat
secondary school, Kara Garjeda secondary school and Dano Shenan secondary school). To do this
teachers were selected from the schools using simple random sampling technique from a population
of 172 teachers to respond. A questionnaire was filled in by 82 teachers and 60 students to find
information about teachers interpretation and commitment implementation of continuous assessment
in classes. The schools principals, Woreda educational experts and cluster supervisors, totally 15 of
them were also interviewed. The data was analyzed using descriptive statistical tools such as
frequency, percentage and as well as careful description of the findings. The results of the study
indicated that the respondents response about teachers interpretation and commitment
implementation of continuous assessment were very low, there were no variations among teachers in
about teachers interpretation and commitment implementation of continuous assessment
implementation and continuous assessment methods like group work, practical work and other
activities were not being practiced by the teachers in the six selected high schools. Based on the
findings, it was concluded that the school teachers commitment in the implementation of continuous
assessment and continuous assessment practice appropriately in their school was almost did not
exist. Therefore, it is important that School leaders and education officers organize workshop, seminars,
conference and giving a motivation with a view to create awareness among teachers on what constitutes CA
as well as on how to implement CA in schools |
