Abstract:
he aim of this study was to identify the key determinant factors affecting implementation of
management information system. The study was designed to conduct in descriptive and
explanatory research design. Data was collected by self-administered structured questionnaire
from Ambo University academic and administrative staffs. The study employed both simple
random sampling and stratifies probability sampling techniques. The sample size for the study
was calculated based on Yamane’s formula from a total population of (N=1571), a sample size
of (n= 174) were selected. Totally 163 questionnaires were properly filled and returned for
analysis showing 93.67% response rate. The collected questionnaires were loaded in SPSS v20
and descriptive and inferential (correlation and multiple regressions) analyses were employed to
analyze the data’s. The result of the study revealed that five input variables personal factors
(PF), technological factors (TF), management factors (MF), management information system
project related factors (PRF) and Environmental factors (EF) accounted for 57.4% of the
variation in management information system. The findings of the correlation result indicated that
personal factors (PF), technological factors (TF), management factors (MF), management
information system project related factors (PRF) and Environmental factors (EF) have
significant and positive relationship on management information system. In addition the finding
of the multiple regression analysis confirmed that PF, TF, MF and PRF significantly and
positively affects management information system while Environmental Factors (EF) has
negative and non-significant influence on implementation of management information system.
The study recommends that Ambo University should exert their effort to these key determinant
factors to improve implementation of management information system.
